The world of precious stones can rely today on important organizations that represent a balancing element in the complex dynamics connected to this sector, which is often in the eye of the storm due to the great discrepancies between the conditions of those employed in the extraction process and the actual value of the product once it reaches the market.

Cibjo – World Jewellery Confederation represents the interests of the entire production chain. Given the fact that it protects the interests of every party, namely, the organizations and companies that make a living thanks to jewels, gems and precious metals, it was defined as “The United Nations of the Jewelry Business”. Starting off in 1926, it constitutes today the most ancient international organization in the jewelry world.

From the mines to the market

Some national organizations doing jewelry business with over 40 countries have adhered to Cibjo. Cibjo observes the whole production chain, vertically – from the mine to the market – and horizontally, within each sector.

Even the Italian Gemological Institute, born in 1973 in Milan, is affiliated to Cibjo together with different Italian cities. This “super partes” organization is non-profit; among its initiatives is the promotion of investigation and knowledge of gemology, in reference to its technical, practical and theoretical aspects. Its mission is also the organization of specialization courses, promotion of exhibits, conferences, debates, seminars, round table meetings, investigations and release of certificates of competency and merit.

The business in Italy

This organization also promotes agreements with national and international bodies, with public and private institutions. One important aspect of its activities is the gemological analysis service. The analysis laboratory, equipped with cutting-edge instruments and excellent constantly-updated professionals, is able to provide an efficient service of certification recognized in the jewelry field at an Italian and international.
